01Bags, skin and dark circles are different issues
Lower eyelid surgery can address fat bags or excess skin. Discoloured dark circles or hollows beneath the eyes do not necessarily call for the same treatment. An examination helps establish the causes.
02An assessment of the eye area
Mention any dry eyes, visual problems, previous surgery and your usual treatments. The surgeon examines, among other things, eyelid support before proposing a suitable procedure.
03Different surgical approaches for different plans
The incision may be below the eyelashes or inside the eyelid. Fat may be removed or repositioned; a procedure on the skin may also be included, depending on the circumstances.
04Allow for visible signs of recovery
Bruising, swelling and irritation may occur during recovery. Clarify eye care, contact lens or make-up use and the check-ups needed, rather than relying on the same timetable for everyone.
05Eyelid function matters just as much
Risks include dryness, asymmetry and changes in eyelid position. Rare complications affecting vision are also possible. Ask which signs mean you should contact a professional promptly.
This is general information. A medical assessment determines whether treatment is appropriate, your individual risks and the instructions suited to you.
